Jon Favreau To Produce & Write New Live Action Star Wars Series

Disney and Lucasfilm announced this morning that Emmy-nominated producer, writer and actor Jon Favreau (Chef, Iron Man, Jungle Book) will be the executive producer and writer for their new live-action Star Wars series, set to launch next year to coincide with the release of Disney’s own Netflix-style streaming service. Disney is obviously showing a lot of faith in Favreau, having worked with him in the past and his work on the upcoming Lion King film – as well as his work with the now-Disney property, Marvel.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Favreau himself showed his enthusiasm for the project, saying “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
