Astroneer is out of this world

Astroneer is out of this world

I consider myself something of a survival game fan. It is quite a love-hate relationship because the genre is filled with mediocrity. I have a hard time finding things that aren’t either buggy or just Minecraft clones, and that is what makes Astroneer so refreshing. The game is a space survival simulator without all of the things I hate about space survival simulators. The game is bright, colorful, and engaging. The mining situation is much more fun than the early game resource grind most of these games have. Many of these games make their first misstep by trying to emulate realism. I don’t want realism because it bores me and is usually too obtuse. Astroneer gives me the ability to put one material into a fabricator and get back an item that I need.

Simplicity like this is what makes me excited for its full release and also excited to venture further into its progression. A lot of survival games lose me in the late game, where it seems they kind of fall apart, but this one seems to keep its scope where I would like it to be. It is very high quality even at this stage of early access in ways I wouldn’t expect. There are little things like weather and a metric ton of animations that I don’t expect from a game until it hits the big 1.0. The game is very aesthetically pleasing and I really look forward to reviewing it when it hits its full version.
